This is a comment on news story: Fedora takes off as Red Hat declines
It's a reply to comment:

I think that they should offer support by: Sharkscott
Four months ago I took and old P3 box and added some RAM and an ethernet card and put Fedora Core 3 on it. I Love It!! I think that is comparable to XP in many ways. If Red Hat offered paid support options for FC3, I would gladly sign up and pay for it. I think that the reason that everyone wants to use FC3 instead of RH9 is because of the stability of FC3. Exept for the support that you automatically get with RH9 there is very little difference from FC3. Why pay for it when the free version is so good that you are not compelled to get the paid support version. It is a testement to the quality of their efforts that FC3 and RH9 are so good that one has an easy decicion to go with the free version. Now, I am NOT suggesting that they pare down FC3 just so they can get some paying subscribers but I do think that they should consider setting up some kind of paid support system so that they can take advantage of all the people who are using FC3 and would consider paying for different levels of support services. Isnt this exactly what Open Source is supposed to be about? Free software with the option of paid support? I personally do not have a single problem with the idea of paying Red Hat for support services. I would veture to say that I would recieve high quality service from a company who is focused on packaging high quality software and providing knowledgable support for that package. I'll bet bucks-to-dollars that Red Hat would care more about me than Microsoft(DUH!!).
