Re: Of Course Torvalds Is Jealous by: DaBlade
Advice to you, SunFanBoy: Learn how to spell.
Sun didn't open it's flagship product. That's Java.
I concider any opening of closed code good. But we all know why Sun did it. They can't compete with M$, the other corporate *nix vendors, BSD, Hurd AND linux, so they're trying to use the tactic of the latter 3 mentioned against the latter 3.
But even so, their attemts are laughable. Linux and BSD have the largest open source OS communities around. They're virually unbeatable. I mean, Linux has over 8 million users. What does Sun have? I don't think Sun has much of a chance taking out Linux or BSD.
I personally think Sun should focus their guns on Micro$oft, rather than Linux. I'm not even sure about Sun's standpoint. Who's side are they on? Micro$oft? The Open Source Community? FSF? Noone?
Whatever they're planning, it dosn't seem to be going that well.
Yeah, I like OpenOffice.org, and yeah, I use Azureus, which is a Java BitTorrent client. I don't hate Sun. I just think they should make their standpoint clearer, and focus on their goals, in stead of "Open this product, make us look good, make secret deal with Ballmer, open another product, make secret deal with Gaytes" and so on...
