Although you mentioned some things you didn't mentioned the best one: The GNU community. All the people who're working hard to keep it running, and distribute it free of all rights so that other people can change it like they feel that's neccesary. Examples are the www.OpenOffice.Org project.

i can get my gentoo linux to do anything that windows can do at double the speed. i wake up in the morning and want to login to my linux. its the best!
