Why would Intel want to promote the demise of Linux netbooks? The original Intel-powered EeePC ran a version of Xandros that was more than good enough to get the NetBook segment off of the ground.

Ubuntu has brought Linux to the masses better than any other Linux distribution. And with its recent 9.04 release, Ubuntu has not only continued to create one of the most user-friendly operating systems available, it has made it faster and more reliable.

Open-source and Linux activists are not allowing the FAT patent dispute between Microsoft and TomTom to fade.

Unlike Windows or Mac OS X, each of which is the product of a single vendor, Linux comes in many different distributions that target the desktop, and each has its own look and feel. Some are based on the Gnome desktop environment, while others use KDE, and still others let the user choose between both.
