PCLinuxOS 2009.1 released, Mar 12, 2009
One month after the PCLinuxOS beta was released, the PCLinuxOS developers have released version 2009.1.
Sendmail going to the cloud, Mar 12, 2009
At one point or another nearly every human that has ever used email has benefited from the open source Sendmail mail transfer agent(MTA). Sendmail at one point was THE MTA (included with every Linux distro) and like everyone else I used it everyday too. Today Sendmail claims that it is on over 35 percent of all Internet servers, and delivers over 65 percent of all email messages sent globally.
Oracle: If RHEL were free, we wouldn't compete, Mar 12, 2009
In the midst of an otherwise insightful analysis of Oracle's contributions to the Linux kernel (spoiler: they're significant), Wim Coekaerts, Oracle's vice president of Linux engineering, makes this baffling statement: "We're offering (Oracle Unbreakable Linux) only because Red Hat requires customers to pay for binary downloads of (Red Hat Enterprise Linux). If RHEL was free, we would have never done (Oracle Unbreakable Linux)."

The Gendarmie Nationale – France’s national police force – has been slowly introducing open source software to its 105,000+ policemen since 2005. In 2008 the decision was made to use only Ubuntu for all new workstations. A year on shows this has been a great success with happy users, a better network and cost savings of over seven million euro per year.
