Debian project gets a new secretary, Feb 24, 2009

The Debian GNU/Linux Project which was functioning without a permanent secretary for some time has finally got a man for the job.

It looks like a war of words has broken out between Google and the Symbian Foundation over which mobile platform is truly more open. Is there really a right answer to this debate?

Dell has seen steady sales growth and low return rates with its Inspiron Mini 9 netbooks running Ubuntu, despite reports that MSI experienced substantially higher return rates with its Wind series running SuSE Linux compared to the XP platform, according to Laptop. Code named "Voyager," VectroLinux 6.0 adds a stable GUI installer, localization and wireless support, numerous new and updated drivers, and a repository with over 1,000 packages, says the Canada-based project.

The company's SheevaPlug development kit envisions a bill of materials that could place a small, Linux-powered computer in a tiny, compact space.

Starting with basic Ubuntu and working his way through Fedora and Debian, space-saving Puppy Linux, powerful Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and more than a dozen others, open source experts match Linux distros to specific needs.
