CodeWeavers Polishes Chromium Code for Mac and Linux, Sep 15, 2008

CodeWeavers, Inc., a leading developer of software products that transform Mac OS X and Linux into Windows-compatible operating systems, has extended the Google Chromium launch beyond Windows. They are announcing the release of CrossOver Chromium for Mac and Linux, available immediately as a free download.

HP is reportedly considering building an alternative operating system to Microsoft Windows, based on Linux.

Life just got easier for users of the downloadable or boxed retail versions of the Ubuntu Linux 8.04 operating system who want easy and cheap ways of adding DVD playback and improved audio capabilities to their machines.

Mark Shuttleworth, whose company, Canonical, funds the Ubuntu operating system, has stepped in to try to resolve a dispute on Ubuntu developer's forum Launchpad.

Cafiero is leading a revolution in the redwood-ringed town of Felton. He's been inspired by others around the country and with them he's dubbed the effort "Lindependence 2008,'' a scheme hatched to turn Felton into an all-Linux enclave.

I can't fault Mark Shuttleworth for being ambitious. He wants to make Ubuntu into an operating system of choice -- one not only as good as the Mac, but better, and he wants to do it in 24 months, give or take. Dream big or die, right?

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the stories of Microsoft mergers. Once more, rumors are swirling that Microsoft might buy Citrix. By my count, this is the fifth time this particular rumor has emerged. In addition, though, this time around I'm hearing that some people think Microsoft might buy Novell.
