Sun’s “open source road map” is to make OpenSolaris a viable alternative to enterprise Linux through a simpler install package and alliances in the enterprise open source space.

Consider the similarity between Angelina Jolie and the One Laptop Per Child project. Both garner gobs of favorable publicity for their humanitarian work that overshadow, in Jolie's case, her recent dry spell at the box office, and in the OLPC's case, its lack of a proven business model.

Ubuntu Linux and its corporate sponsor Canonical claim to be ready for the enterprise challenge on the desktop and the server.

Linux in 2007 definitely takes honors for "most improved." The open source OS, fueled by impassioned enthusiasts but still not embraced by the general public, more than doubled its market share. Data from Net Application shows that it grew from 0.37% in December '06 to 0.81% in September '07. (The figures count only Internet-connected PCs, not servers or embedded devices, two of Linux's strong areas.)

The nation's first Linux patent suit currently facing Red Hat and Novell isn't about open source at all. Or so the plaintiff says.

Unfortunately, until today it looked like only Windows users were going to be able to play, but the BBC has now announced a deal with Adobe which will add Flash video streaming to the iPlayer service and let Linux users get in on the act.
