Intel yesterday launched an open-source project called LessWatts.org, which it hopes will reduce the power consumption of Linux-based servers, PCs and other devices.

The initiative aims to bring together disparate development efforts around Linux power management to get energy-efficient systems to market faster, according to Intel. It will be a community project to unite Linux developers, users and open-source vendors to work on new technology to reduce power consumption.
