GPL3 to dominate LinuxWorld, Aug 07, 2007

An open-source competitor to Microsoft Project and discussion of the GPL3 are among the expected highlights of LinuxWorld, which kicks off today in San Francisco.

The other big change this year is the GPLv3. The discussion is no longer about what should go into the GPL but rather about who should be using it and what it's all about.

The LiMo (Linux Mobile) Foundation, an industry group building a common software stack for Linux-based mobile phones, today announced a dozen new members. The organization also disclosed that rival Symbian's longtime Senior VP of Sales and Professional Services, Morgan Gillis, will soon become its Executive Director.

Palm's Linux-based Foleo "mobile companion" -- expected to ship "this summer," according to Palm -- will utilize Wind River's embedded Linux distribution and tools, Wind River has announced. Wind River will also offer professional services and customer support to the Palm developer community.

Lenovo and Novell have announced that the popular laptops will begin shipping with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 (SLED) preinstalled.
