Dell says Linux is not for business, Jun 21, 2007

According to one poster on an Ubuntu forum, Dell refused to sell him an Ubuntu machine for his small, non-profit business.

The chief information officer (CIO) for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps has decided that the services may use open-source software (OSS), treating it just like commercial-off-the-shelf software.

Linux websites have better uptime and load faster than Windows-based websites. Research by WatchMouse, a website monitoring company, also shows that web server platform Apache outperforms the Microsoft IIS platform. Therefore, having a Linux website and an Apache web server platform offers the best choice for professional web pages.

Last week, more than 230 Linux leaders converged on Google's Mountain View, Calif. campus to discuss the most pressing issues for Linux, at the first-ever Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit.

When I first saw the list for the eWEEK slide show, Ten Reasons Not to Buy Open Source, I couldn't believe what I was reading. So here are my answers to these "reasons."
