Chris DiBona, open-source programs manager at Google, says the jury is still out on Microsoft's recent claims that free and open-source software violates 235 Microsoft patents.

Acme Systems has introduced a tiny Linux-based gateway that connects cellular SMS (simple message service) and TCP/IP networks.

It would be rather funny if, after all the brouhaha Microsoft has made recently about patent violations, the company is found to be violating the one thing which it passionately hates - the existing General Public Licence.

All of this giving away coupons activity by Microsoft is meaningless and useless. The coupons have no expiration date, and Microsoft can be sure that some coupons will be turned into Novell in return for software after the effective date of GPL 3.

The real reason people don't use Linux on their desktops, though, is that it's not already there. They stick with what they know. It's really that simple.
