You Can Switch to Linux!, May 10, 2007

Instead of just telling you what to do, I’m going to tell you how to do things and explain why you’re doing them. I’m going to focus on the things that are truly a challenge (and poorly documented), but still give you a head start on the easy stuff.

Linux continues to make inroads into China according to the latest market research.

During the Release team meeting yesterday, it was decided to slip the deep freeze date by a week at least. This will also slip the final release of Fedora 7 by at least a week.

The first Gentoo Linux release of the year is now available, featuring an improved installer and updated packages.

In an effort to spur adoption of Solaris, Sun Microsystems has begun a project code-named Indiana to try to give its operating system some of the trappings of Linux.

Red Hat is preparing to release a new "Red Hat Global Desktop" that over time will grow into an online desktop that integrates online services into a client desktop platform. The platform will allow users to access online and local data in a unified way.

It's not just big companies, with their household names and logos and equally big advertising budgets, that sponsor cars in the Indianapolis 500.

Red Hat announced its upcoming new client product, the Red Hat Global Desktop, at its annual summit here on May 9.
