Despite years of success Dell has fallen on hard times. The company who practically reinvented the way people buy computers has been under-performing and investors are worried. The company has been losing market share and no longer has the edge it once had over competitors like HP and Gateway.

Novell has issued a joint press release with Microsoft, in which HSBC, a customer of joint technology from the two companies, claims that Windows has a lower total cost of ownership than Linux.

Red Hat faces a lengthening list of rivals, but the company hopes to cement its lead in the Linux market Wednesday with its latest version of the open-source operating system.

The OLPC was presented today to Romanian officials in the Education Ministry by Nicholas Negroponte.

Open-source specialist Red Hat has released the latest version of its Linux distribution, which will now feature in-built virtualisation and clustering technology.

Red Hat, planning a new expansion beyond its core Linux operating system business, will launch a service later this year called the Red Hat Exchange to sell partners' open-source software.
