PCLinuxOS 0.93a, Oct 23, 2006

PCLinuxOS is a bit of an unknown quantity to me. It appears to be pretty popular, sitting at number six on Distrowatch at the time of writing, yet I rarely hear anything about it except for the odd release. So, seeing as I know next to nothing about PCLinuxOS, it's about time that I went and saw what the fuss was about.

Not to be outdone by Microsoft's recent release of Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla is planning the second major release of its rival Firefox browser tomorrow.

Oracle has the ability to support Linux, and doing so could have "tactical value" for the database company, the founder of Ubuntu Linux--and a potential Oracle partner--said Friday.

The most likely development to expect is that Oracle will certify or support the use of Oracle on Ubuntu Linux.

Developers are being urged to join the new Linux Standard Base (LSB) Developer Network, a developers’ website designed to rival the Microsoft Developers Network (MSDN).

Stallman is right to take up the fight - despite the fact that many people call him an oddball in this day and age, one has to always bear in mind that if he had not started the GNU Project in 1984 and the FSF a year later, and stuck to his guns, there would be no widespread use of either free or open source software. And many of us really wouldn't be where we are today.
