Red Hat Inc. has pushed out the first public beta of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, an upgrade to its operating system that includes virtualization technologies intended to help companies get more use from their hardware.

Lenovo and Novell have announced the industry's first Linux-based ThinkPad mobile workstations, which will run Novell's recently released SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 operating system. The workstations are based on Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology.
KDE launches first KOffice 1.6 beta, Sep 13, 2006
The KDE Project on Sept. 10 released KOffice 1.6-beta1, the first beta release for KOffice 1.6, which the project team said is scheduled for full release this October. The release is meant for testing purposes only, not for deployment on production systems, according to the team.

You must remember the period where various electronic devices, from phones to radios, were available in transparent cases. You may have found them utterly cool. Yet the simple fact that you can't find these things on the shelves anymore (except for do-it-yourself PC cases) means the crowd doesn't find them nearly that cool. While you may not see the link yet, this is exactly why the Linux desktop will never be popular.
Fedora 6 to strengthen virtualisation features with Xen 3.0.3, Sep 13, 2006
Roger Klorese, product director at XenSource, the company behind the open-source Xen software project, told IT Week, “We decided to synchronise the release of 3.0.3 with the Fedora Core 6 schedule and hence push it back... It now has several of the features that were originally slated for 3.0.4.”
