Novell Inc.'s (NOVL) new chief financial officer said the decline in the company's legacy software sales in the third quarter was disappointing, but that its focus on Linux products is paying off in higher sales.

The company also said it is voluntarily reviewing its stock-based compensation practices, although CFO Dana Russell said it's too early to tell if the review will have any impact on earnings. The company will delay its third-quarter 10Q filing until the review is complete
