Open source guru advocates ideological shift, Aug 17, 2006

Eric Raymond, one of the high priests of open source, has told the community that painful compromises are needed to the way it deals with closed source platforms and formats to avoid losing ground on desktops and new media players.

Hewlett Packard is expanding its support for Linux distributions by adding Debian Linux to its list. The company says that Debian Linux is now enabled across HP's range of ProLiant and BladeSystem servers.

As of August 1, there were 7,000 jobs opportunities on Dice.com for technology professionals with Linux experience. The new "Linux-enabled" Lenovo laptop launched this week at LinuxWorld will not actually come "pre-loaded" with Novell SUSE Linux, a high-ranking Lenovo official said today, contradicting some industry reports stating otherwise.
