Novell CTO defends 'unstable' Xen claim, Aug 11, 2006

Novell chief technology officer (CTO) Markus Rex has hit back at criticism the company included an "unstable" Xen virtualisation environment in its new Linux server, pointing to support from hardware partners.

In 2003 and 2004, Jeff Schroeder served in the Iraq war, flying a tiny remote control spy plane and servicing Unix and Linux systems on the battlefield.

IBM is no novice in open sourcing healthcare software.

To help meet the demand by New York-area employers looking for techies with skills related to mainframe, Linux, and open-standard technologies, IBM has expanded a partnership with Pace University, enhancing the curriculum it already helps develop at the school.

In September, Sony expects to ship a Linux- and Qtopia-based handheld device featuring WiFi connectivity, an Opera web browser, and a variety of text- and voice-messaging clients and media players. The Mylo -- short for "My Life Online" -- will be available in black or white, priced at $350.

In July, Mark Shuttleworth, Canonical's head, started looking for a community manager for Ubuntu, the popular Linux distribution. Shuttleworth recently found his man, Jono Bacon, a UK-based technology consultant and writer.

As expected, Novell has renamed its free version of Linux OpenSuse to avoid brand confusion. The former name, Suse Linux, was based on the OpenSuse collaborative development project, but was to too close to the Suse Linux Enterprise product naming.
