SimplyMEPIS 6.0beta2 Release, May 05, 2006

Warren has announced the beta2 development release of SimplyMEPIS 6.0. The ISO image is available for download and test in the mepis 'testing' subdirectory at the MEPIS Subscriber's Site and public mirrors.

Linux will become the dominant OS for Oracle databases by 2007, displacing Solaris, according to a new survey from the Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG). But just by a smidge -- 44 percent will run on Linux by then, versus 43 percent on Solaris.

When Backcountry.com, an outdoor sporting goods retailer, was looking for shopping cart software, it picked an open source application called Interchange. It worked so well that the company began an enterprise-wide migration to open source software that has Linux running everywhere, from the servers to the desktops.

Sun Microsystems plans to alter its licensing to make it easier to bundle Java Runtime Environment with Linux.

In short, welcoming proprietary software into Linux is like being a little-bit pregnant. You either are, or you're not.
