As handset producers look harder at open source, the pressure is building on software makers Symbian and Microsoft

For big companies that want to use the Linux operating system and get business-level support, there are only two main options: Red Hat Inc. and Novell. And one of those looked shaky last week.

Open-source business models are booming in the software industry, a rapid rise that has some experts wondering if it's a bubble that will burst.

According to experts, the dominant operating systems in the data center by the end of the decade will be Windows and Linux -- and Microsoft is getting ready for that standoff by learning from the competition.

A system administrator pretty much has to be able to do anything- network voodoo, user education, pull cable, build servers, fix hardware, fend off clueless management, and myriad more tasks.
