It would take a long time to drive between the Northern Ontario towns that make up the Roman Catholic diocese of Sault St. Marie, but they are all directly linked by more than a common faith.

Each local parish -- there are 104 of them, spanning an area east of North Bay that includes Wawa and Whitefish -- is using a Web-based system to publish the kind of information once found only in weekly paper bulletins commonly stacked near a church door. These portals also serve as intranets where priests can chat with one another to exchange ideas, record and store the minutes of church meetings, and even provide backgrounders about the sacraments to parishioners.
