Three vendors intend to shake up the corporate database market, competing in what is quickly turning into an open source arena.

Startup EnterpriseDB says it aims to compete with open source database leader MySQL, and take on rivals Pervasive Software and Greenplum.

The latter's thrust into open source began with a software and hardware bundle that includes data analysis tools and an early version of the company's specialised business intelligence database, built around Greenplum's Bizgres, a version of the PostgreSQL open source database designed for building large scale analysis databases.
