Linux Desktop Must Work to Head Off Straying Users, Jun 09, 2005

You can talk all you want about how Mactels aren't going to be that wonderful, but if you want to see many enterprise Linux desktops around in 2007, start making it happen.

IBM today introduced the latest additions to its telecoms product portfolio with the unveiling of Power PC processor-based BladeCenter JS20 blades in the BladeCenter T chassis.

Linux-distro maker Xandros on Wednesday announced that it is shipping a new full-point release of the company's Business Desktop OS, designed specifically for seamless compatibility with the latest Windows servers.

IBM executives declined to comment on the company's use of Wine for this article, and while the software is mentioned occasionally on IBM's Web site, it is generally not endorsed as a tool for moving Windows desktops to Linux.

Open source advocate Bruce Perens has a new job. He's taken the role of vice president of developer relations and policy with open-source startup SourceLabs.

The organisation is working with Wimbledon IT supplier IBM to upgrade its web site with enhanced real-time scoreboard graphics and a Linux infrastructure to improve its performance.
