Microsoft faces challenge from Brazil

Brazil is encouraging other developing countries to follow its lead in replacing Microsoft Corp. software with free alternatives, such as Linux.

State-owned Banco do Brasil SA plans to fund the creation of a group to promote President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's initiative for open-source software outside Brazil.
