Linux gets a good share of the headlines, but Windows server software is grabbing a good share of the dough.

Support for Linux in the traditionally conservative world of financial services has more than doubled in the last year according to the latest market intelligence.

With SUSE LINUX, Czech Post centralized the administration of one of the most geographically extensive systems in the Czech Republic. The new system strengthens the security of the company’s APOST system, while providing faster performance and nearly 100 percent uptime.

But the irony still remains here. Although Indian software companies provide solutions to proprietary software bigwigs like the U.S.-based Microsoft Corp, most people in this country cannot afford to buy licensed software products.

Networking software giant Novell Inc wants to do two things this year – position itself as the preferred Linux supplier, and establish a proper “ecosystem” for its partners, be they independent software and hardware vendors (ISVs and IHVs) or resellers.
