The average technology budget allotment per student in U.S. public school systems is $104. In many states it's less, as in the case of North Carolina where only $15.98 is allotted per student each year. Alabama had to cut $300 million from their educational budget and Ohio is faced with looking for a way to manage an $850 million deficit.

This is an obvious problem faced by many public school systems, and something that must be addressed before it is too late for us to catch up with other nations as they increase their global economic power by producing students that are well trained in the technological sciences. If that wasn't enough, many companies (Ford Europe, Amazon.com, and Sony to name a few) are moving towards an open source computing solution for their business needs.
