The trail of a purportedly "leaked" federal court exhibit that unveiled SCO Group's Linux licensees appeared on Tuesday to be winding back toward the Utah software company itself.

The Feb. 4 letter, part of the discovery process in SCO's copyright lawsuit against IBM, has been widely distributed on the Internet. In it, SCO provided IBM's legal counsel information on three companies Lindon-based SCO said had obtained Linux licenses.

Among them was software giant Computer Associates (CA), a revelation that stunned the pro-Linux "open source" advocates. CA has been an ally in their efforts to keep the operating system freely distributed.
