How to score SCO's legal games, Nov 23, 2003

With SCO spraying out threats of legal action like a tomcat on diuretics, this latest piece of territorial widdle might seem like an attempt to put the legal frighteners on a competitor rather than a justifiable defence of SCO's core business -- unless SCO's core business now is taking people to court. The company is handing over hunks of shares to its lawyers: this can't be ruled out.

We're pleased to announce that KDevelop took first place in the fourth annual Linux New Media Awards with 29.4% of the votes in the category of best IDE development system; second and third places went to Eclipse and Anjuta respectively. The jury consisted of the editors of the German Linux-Magazin as well as authors, industry leaders and members of the Open Source Community, including kernel hacker Alan Cox and the president of Linux International, Jon "Maddog" Hall.

Well, ignoring the issues of the GPL and the legality of such a product, do we really think Microsoft would come out with a version of Linux? If history and Microsoft has taught us one thing, it’s that Microsoft don’t release out ‘versions’ of what is essentially somebody else’s product. Either they buy the company and merge the code into their own code base, purchase a distribution license from the company and use them as a partner for their products, or they develop their own interpretation of the same product.
