Microsoft Corp. may lose 15,000 customers for its Windows operating system as the Viennese city government considers phasing in Linux software, a city official said yesterday.

The Austrian capital will decide by the middle of 2004 whether to start phasing in Linux, said Erwin Gillich, deputy head of the city's information technology unit.
