SCO bills first 1,000 Linux users, Sep 03, 2003
SCO will start invoicing Linux users in the next two months, with the first batch of bills being sent to around 1,000 US users.

The conclusion is clear. Microsoft has decided that a business-friendly administration, combined with the new focus on terrorism over domestic issues, means that they have a green light for their "take no prisoners" business strategies. With only the State of Massachusetts still making any kind of anti-trust noise, Bill & Co. are back on the warpath, seeking a Microsoft hegemony on the desktop. If they can succeed inmaking enough of the killer desktop apps (IM, word processing, spreadsheets) non-open standards, they can control the market.
And with the Justice Department asleep at the switch, they may very well succeed.
First look at HP's first US all-Linux PC, Sep 03, 2003
HP told me that an identical unit to the one I reviewed -- except for substituting either a 48X CD-ROM or CD-RW for the combo drive -- would cost $467 with Linux, $519 with Windows XP Home, or $589 for Windows XP Professional. I selected various options for d220 configuration on the HP Web site and found it was possible to get the price for a Linux d220 as low as $377 and as high as just over $900.

IBM Wednesday aired its latest Linux-oriented win when it announced that the University of Washington, Rutgers Universities Libraries, and the Georgia Institute of Technology Interactive Media Technology Center have opted to run Linux on Power4 chip architecture to build an online catalog of film, television and digital video for the Library of Congress.
