For enterprises, the promise of open source computing is all about proprietary performance at minimal cost. No wonder, then, that Linux has made such inroads into the server market, and that IBM recently made its Lotus suite Linux-ready.
One fan of both Lotus and Linux is the University of Nebraska, whose 50,000 students, faculty, and staff use Lotus e-mail currently supported by 30 Intel servers running in a Windows environment.
