| SCO Group mines PR of Linux claims, but offers few specifics |
|---|
The SCO Group, pursuing its jihad against all things Linux, says some Fortune 500 company has licensed SCO Unix for use on computers running the Linux operating system. There may be a lot less here than meets the eye.
To refresh you on the situation: SCO sued IBM in March, claiming IBM had taken SCO's Unix code and put it in Linux. IBM has countersued, claiming that SCO is violating IBM patents and other rights.
SCO recently said it would sell licenses allowing companies using Linux to pay a fee per server computer in order to not be in violation. But in the Fortune 500 company licensing SCO announced, both the identity of the company and the terms of the deal are secret. If SCO had actually persuaded a serious company to roll over on this unproven claim of infringement, it surely would have trumpeted the name of the company and the amount paid.
