Red Hat Files Complaint Against SCO, Aug 04, 2003
Red Hat today made two significant announcements to protect Red Hat Linux customers and the worldwide Linux industry. First, Red Hat announced that it filed a formal complaint against The SCO Group, Inc. The purpose of this complaint is to demonstrate that Red Hat's technologies do not infringe any intellectual property of SCO and to hold SCO accountable for its unfair and deceptive actions.
Novell Acquires Ximian, Aug 04, 2003
Novell, Inc., today announced it has acquired privately held Ximian of Boston, Mass., the leading provider of desktop and server solutions that enable enterprise Linux adoption. This acquisition expands Novell's capacity to provide flexible information solutions to customers worldwide. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
SCO and Linux: this one will run and run, Aug 04, 2003
SCO's latest act in the Linux lawsuit saga has been to implement a licensing scheme for Linux users, writes Robin Bloor of Bloor Research. In the words of SCO CEO Darl McBride, "SCO is prepared to offer a licence for SCO's UnixWare 7.1.3 product for use in conjunction with any Linux product. This licensing format will assure that Linux users will be able to run Linux in full compliance with SCO's underlying IP rights."
This is on the one hand, amusing, and on the other bewildering.

LinuxWorld Opens Hunting Season, Aug 04, 2003
Besides robots and penguins playing hide and seek, the LinuxWorld at San Francisco's Moscone Center Aug. 4 through Aug. 7 will feature dozens of new Linux and open-source product launches. More than 150 companies will be exhibiting at the trade show.
