The Mozilla Foundation Created, Jul 15, 2003
We're very pleased to announce the creation of the Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit organization that will serve as the new home for mozilla.org. The Mozilla Foundation will continue mozilla.org's work of coordinating the development of the Mozilla codebase. With an independent non-profit as the legal home for Mozilla, we will also promote the distribution and adoption of Mozilla applications and technologies. In addition, we will raise funds to ensure Mozilla's long-term survival.
Wyse notes 80% growth of Linux thin-client market, Jul 15, 2003
Wyse Technology announced a pair of Linux-based thin-client terminals today, which the company said will "address the rapidly expanding Linux thin-client market . . . and allow [it] to maintain its dominance of the worldwide thin-client market." Data from market research firm IDC indicates that the worldwide Linux thin-client market grew more than 80% in 2002, Wyse said.
OGo: No go so far, Jul 15, 2003
The OpenGroupware.org (OGo) project last week announced the release of its software under GPL and LGPL licenses. This new project claims to be the software that can replace Microsoft Exchange servers with a totally Open Source solution. As I looked at the press release, I saw quotes like "The release of OGo means the OpenOffice.org suite is ready for the enterprise complete with full-featured and mature groupware solutions." Unfortunately, after several hours of effort, I learned that this software is not yet ready for corporate use.
IBM advances Linux for Power chips, Jul 15, 2003
IBM has put more muscle behind its effort to improve Linux for its Power family of processors, adding dozens of programmers to Big Blue's Linux Technology Center with plans to hire more.
Sybase Opens Linux Center, Jul 15, 2003
All gain, no pain—that was Sybase Inc.'s pledge as it threw open the door to its new Linux Competency Center, a Linux professional services practice, in New York on Monday. The company also announced record test results for its ASE 12.5 database running on Linux.
Debian Security Advisory - New nfs-utils package fixes buffer overflow, Jul 15, 2003

The logging code in nfs-utils contains an off-by-one buffer overrun
when adding a newline to the string being logged. This vulnerability
may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of
service condition by sending certain RPC requests.
