How Far Can Zend Take PHP?

Zend is actually a two-hat company: It develops for the open-source PHP product, and it develops its own commercial tools. Zend co-founder and chief technology officer Zeev Suraski is a core PHP programmer. The company is "very busy getting PHP 5 out the door," Young said. The upgrade will bring a new object model to PHP, making it a better platform for object-oriented development, Young said. "[The new version] also lays the groundwork for better interactivity with other platforms, such as J2EE and .NET," he noted.
