KernelAs the release of the 2.6 stable kernel tree approaches, queries as to exactly when this will happen become more frequent on the Linux kernel mailing list. It was recently asked if we can expect the next stable kernel by the end of June, as suggested by a recent eWeek article. Alan Cox called this suggestion "wildly improbable", noting the sheer number of outstanding bugs left to be fixed, some of which result in possible data corruption such as long-standing issues with the floppy driver. When pressed, however, Alan explained it's not as bad as it sounds:
