IBMIBM today announced the number of IBM Business Partners supporting IBM's Linux*-enabled software increased more than 800 percent over the last year.

IBM Business Partners are riding the momentum behind the fast-paced growth of the Linux operating system. In one year, the number of Business Partners supporting IBM's key software running on Linux grew from 548 to more than 4700.

General Last weekend's CodeCon conference in San Francisco saw the launch of Tinfoil Hat Linux, a self-proclaimed "exercise in over engineering" and security.

What started out as a secure, single floppy, bootable Linux distribution for storing PGP keys, and encrypting, signing and wiping files, turned into a useable Linux distribution for the totally paranoid.

- Linux, Windows to run on IBM servers, Feb 19, 2002
IBM The company will use tools from software maker VMware to allow IBM x360 eServer models to run the Windows and Linux operating systems in various combinations.

IBM will discuss the VMware licensing deal later Tuesday at its Partnerworld conference. The deal fits into two Big Blue efforts: the X architecture initiative to offer more sophisticated Intel-based servers and an overall emphasis on the open-source Linux software.
