A Democratic congressman said Attorney General John Ashcroft (news - web sites) should have recused himself from the Microsoft antitrust case (news - web sites) because of the software giant's contributions to Ashcroft's 2000 Senate campaign, according to a letter released Thursday.

"I am disappointed you have failed to take similar action in the Microsoft case, a matter involving a party from whom you also received sizable contributions, $20,000 in the 2000 election cycle alone," wrote Rep. John Conyers, the lead Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee
