- The brave new OS of the future, Feb 14, 2002

General Meanwhile, IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., is hard at work making operating systems more scalable. It's extending Linux÷and developing operating system kernels to run under it÷to control a computer with 65,000 processors. As part of its $100 million Blue Gene research project, IBM plans to build a computer operating at 1 quadrillion floating-point operations per second to attack problems such as protein folding.
- Release of KDE 3.0beta2, Feb 14, 2002
KDEThe KDE Project today announced the immediate release of KDE 3.0beta2, the third pre-release of the third generation of KDE's free, powerful, easy-to-use, Internet-enabled desktop for Linux and other UNIXes. This KDE 3.0 beta ships with the core KDE libraries, the core desktop environment, and over 100 applications from the other base KDE packages (administration, games, multimedia, network, PIM, utilities, artwork, addons, development, edutainment, bindings, etc.). KDE 3.0 is scheduled for final release early in the second quarter 2002, with one or more intervening "RC" releases preceding the final release.
- A sneak preview of Infomart's "Kaii" Linux PDA, Feb 14, 2002
GeneralInfomart saw an opening between the high-end high-cost Pocket PC PDAs, and the low-end low-cost Palm PDAs, and created a new PDA called "Kaii" to fill that gap. "We wanted to make a PDA with the features of high-end PDAs, but at an affordable cost," said Devesh R. Agarwal, managing director of the Bangalore, India based development company. "Our initial target market was India only, but as we progressed further into the development cycle we realized that there were opportunities in the global market also."
