Mandrake Linux 8.2 Beta Released, Jan 28, 2002

There is no point in downloading this distribution unless you are ready to spend some time writing bug reports. Stick to final releases for production machines, but don't blame us if installing the final version of 8.2 fails on your PC because you were too lazy to file an early bug report on this beta!

Sun Microsystems Inc. may focus most of its attention on its proprietary UNIX, Solaris, but with customer demand for Linux support spiking, the company revealed Monday that it will provide a new Linux version of its iPlanet Application Server software.

Sharp's new Linux-based Zaurus PDA is expected to begin hitting retail shelves this March for a list price $549, a company source told LinuxDevices.com. The model name will be "Zaurus SL-5500", and it will include 64MB of RAM memory and 16MB of built-in Flash storage memory (in contrast to pre-production devices which had 32MB of RAM).
