LindowsOS.com Email Lists Collected For MS Suit, Jan 15, 2002
Over at the LindowsOS website is a message from company chief Michael Robertson, who advises readers that, in the course of discovery for the ongoing lawsuit instigated by Microsoft against Lindows.com, the company was "compelled to disclose your email address to Microsoft." The email addresses aren't just those who have submitted product names with a connection to "Windows", but rather "everyone who had submitted their address asking to be signed up for the Lindows.com mailing list since we turned on the website," according to email from Robertson.

Taken as a whole, the problems do more than fly in the face of Microsoft's declaration that Windows XP is the safest operating system ever.
They are beginning to threaten the stability of a major piece of the world economy and to raise questions about Microsoft's future. The company badly needs more customer confidence for its shift toward interactive services.
A surprising sign of how quickly opinion is changing came last week. A blue-ribbon panel of technology experts assembled by the National Academy of Sciences said lawmakers should consider ending Microsoft's and other software companies' special protection from product liability lawsuits, which have long forced makers of cars, medical devices and just about everything else to pay closer attention to the safety of their wares.

Will new chip perk up embedded Red Hat?, Jan 15, 2002
Red Hat, the top seller of the Linux operating system, announced a deal Wednesday to support SuperH's forthcoming SH-5 chip.
The deal is an important victory for Red Hat's "embedded" computing division, which creates software for computing devices such as network routers, cars or handheld computers. The division has seen revenue slump as microprocessor companies cut back on new chip initiatives, Red Hat has said.
