A first look at Kylix 2 Open Edition, Nov 29, 2001

If you haven't used Kylix before, the OE comes with complete source code for a number of demo applications. Studying these can greatly reduce your learning time. There are demo apps for a basic text editor, clock, timer, sort, and even a demo illustrating the use of threads.

Rackspace Managed Hosting, a leading provider of managed hosting services, and Red Hat, the leader in developing, deploying and managing open source solutions, today announced E-Commerce Complete, a comprehensive, hosted e-commerce solution. The offering features the Red Hat E-Commerce Suite installed and pre-configured on a Rackspace hosting platform, and it includes support and services from both companies to ensure complete integration and smooth management of the application.

That plan went out the window Tuesday, when Red Hat unilaterally issued its own advisory.

"Everybody else, they look like jerks, and they have to scramble to get fixes," said an irate Ivan Arce, CTO of Core Security Technologies. "The only fixes now out publicly are Red Hat's."

I predict that Linux will eventually be at the foundation of nearly every enterprise system and that the whole issue of which server operating system to choose will then disappear into ambient background noise. It's not often that I make predictions about predictions, but because the above prophecy is so bold, I'll make an exception: I predict that this will turn out to be one of the easiest predictions I've ever made.
