- Sharp to Load MPEG-4 Player in Its Linux-Based PDAs, Mar 23, 2001

GeneralSharp Corp. has reached an agreement with PacketVideo Corp. for a license to the "PVPPlayer" wireless streaming video player software, which complies with MPEG-4 files. Sharp will load PVPlayer onto the wireless PDAs it plans to market in Europe. The PDAs will use the Linux operating system.

GeneralA Web pad running the free Linux operating system was demonstrated for the first time by South Korean hardware manufacturer LG at the CeBIT computer fair in Hanover, Germany this week. The Linux operating system kernel, developed by volunteer programmers and distributed for free over the internet, means that LG will not be tied to a third part proprietary software maker, company representatives said.
- Intel to make 250,000 Web gizmos for AOL deal in Spain, Mar 23, 2001
IndustryThe world's biggest semiconductor company Intel Corp. will supply 250,000 Web access devices that Spain's biggest bank, Banco Santander Central Hispano , is set to offer to clients with America Online Inc. , which Intel and others hope could jump-start the nascent industry.

The Dot.Station runs the Linux operating system and uses a Mozilla Web browser.
