Open SourceEven as Richard Stallman of the Free Software Foundation works to complete version 3.0 of the General Public License (GPL) for open-source software, at least one major commercial real-time operating-system (RTOS) company in the embedded communications space is expressing concern over the evolving GPL and its legal ramifications
- IBM To Unveil New Linux Moves, Feb 17, 2001
IBMIBM will use its upcoming PartnerWorld, scheduled for Feb. 25-28 in Atlanta, to reinforce its strategy of leveraging mainframe technology and Linux across its eServer line.

To support its moves, IBM will introduce programs to make Linux available on its iSeries servers, formerly known as the AS/400 line, said Bill Zeitler, senior vice president for Big Blue's Server Group.

- Caldera to buy OpenServer, Feb 17, 2001
Caldera Systems is to acquire SCO's OpenServer operating system, in an extension to its agreement to buy SCO's server software and professional services divisions. The amendment will tidy up the terms of the acquisition, give users a clearer roadmap and leave SCO free to focus on its Tarantella application server. However, it will also mean the sale is not now likely to close until the April to June quarter
