IBM sinks $US100m into Linux software

Computer maker IBM announced today it will sink $US100 million over the next three years into a software laboratory in India.
M said the lab will work in conjunction with IBM's worldwide Linux Technology Centre, with developers at the India Software Lab also working with other IBM research centres, including the Watson Research Lab in the United States.

Businesses might soon have more reasons to adopt Linux, following the release of Borland's
Kylix application development toolkit which will allow developers to import code from existing
Windows applications.
Analysts say one factor delaying the deployment of Linux is the shortage of third-party software that runs on the operating system, and that the Linux-focused tools may change this.
