      hi DevyncC

Could you please let me know how to login as root user in ubuntu 12.04 in graphical mode when system starts....
I can not see option as "Others" to login as a root user.....please help me
      1. DevynCJohnson
        DevynCJohnson
Open a terminal and run the desired command as Root. Technically, users are not supposed to run a whole desktop environment as Root. There is a way to add Root to the Ubuntu login menu, but I am not sure specifically how to do it. I think there was a Dconf setting that could be changed or you could try "Unity Tweak Tool" or "Ubuntu Tweak".

I am a developer based on Microsoft technology(MCSD in windows store app) so I write code in C# and XAML.
And I really want to dive into Linux world. This will be tough decision and big challenge for me. Because I spent some time with c# and xaml and other Microsoft tech and I have to give up that path.

        1. If I want to involve in kernel patch or developing apps in Linux distro or device driver development, what languages do I need to learn?
        2. I do some C# and XAML, but I don't feel like i know some computer basic(ex. how computer works, CPU etc..), If I learn, Do I get more knowledge about computer system?
        3. what about job ? i want to be a professional in the future, how is Linux doing in job market?

Linux is doing well in the job market, although not as well as Windows. However, some large companies use Linux (like Citgo). C# is a good language to know. Yes, learning Linux and kernel programming will broaden your skills. Linux is Unix-like while Windows is just Windows. The two OSes are very different, but at the user level (as far as a regular user is aware), Linux is like any other system.

Since you have Microsoft skills, that will help you with companies that wish to migrate from one system to the other. Also, companies that use both (like the hospital in my area [MHHCC]) would benefit from IT people that understand both systems. You could install VirtualBox and then experiment with Linux in a virtual machine.

It is mainly a matter of personal opinion/liking. I prefer Ubuntu which contains features for many main-stream computer users. Other people may prefer OpenSuse, Fedora, Linux Mint, Bodhi, and many others.

This list of articles (http://www.linux.org/threads/reading-guides-indexes.6034/) may help you. This guide is sorted in a "recommended reading" order. If you have questions, ask in the forums or post on the article that you have a question about. If you are paper-book type of person, Ebay and Amazon have some good reading material. Most public libraries have books on Linux.

You should ask your questions in the forums so that other people can answer your questions and help you. Have you read my article about Oracle's VirtualBox? Installing Ubuntu in VirtualBox is no different than installing it "normally".
