Lesson: Fish protocol

First steps with 'fish'

First, you'll need to start up the Konqueror file manager. If you're running KDE as your desktop (pardon the redundancy), you usually just have to click on the 'home' icon. 'fish' is a protocol, like 'http', so in the address field you type the following to connect to the remote computer:

fish://username@computer_name-or-host

You can see an example here:

Now you can use Konqueror on the machine where you're sitting to browse your home directory on the remote machine.

You can also use Konqueror to open the file for viewing, as you'll see in the next example:

You also have all of Konqueror's options at your disposal, just has if you were at the other machine. You can create directories, files and perform other operations.
