Setting Up A Virtual Mail System

Email systems

Since email as we know it was invented in the early 1970's, the standard procedure was for email accounts to come along with a user account on a system. In other words, in order to have an email account where you could be reached, you had to have an account somewhere on some host. As email has become more popular, it has become practical for both security and logistics reasons to provide email accounts that don't correspond to actual user accounts on a host machine. These are often called 'virtual' email accounts. In this lesson, we'll look at the steps to be taken to install a fairly basic system to provide these types of accounts.
