I've recently switched to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and I'm having some difficulties making my laptop detect my Canon MP497 Wireless Printer. Does anyone have any idea how to install it properly? It's an MP495 Series by the way and it isn't attached to any computer but is wirelessly connected to my router.

I figured out it isn't as hard as it seems to be.

I just downloaded the drivers from:
http://support-th.canon-asia.com/contents/TH/EN/0100301502.html

Then I extracted the archive. It will now be under the folder "cnijfilter-mp495series-3.40-1-deb"

I opened a terminal and accessed that folder.
Code:
$ cd cnijfilter-mp495series-3.40-1-deb

Then you will find a file named install.sh when you do an "ls".

Simply type this command to install:
Code:
$ bash install.sh

Just follow the wizard and you're done!

Hmmmm going to use this method for my Epson Wireless and see what happens. I have never got that to work via Ubuntu. I will try this week when I have time from the office and report back.

Yes you can try looking for a Linux driver for your Epson first and see if it can work with the same method I did. Because I'm not really sure if all printer manufacturers provide Linux drivers.
